Staying Connected Through Life Transitions
& Family Strain

Families with teenage or adult children often face unique challenges as relationships evolve. Adolescence and early adulthood bring a natural push for independence, which can sometimes lead to conflict, emotional distance, or misunderstandings between parents and children.
Shifting family roles, differing expectations, and unresolved past hurts may create tension, leaving both parents and their children feeling unheard or disconnected. Life transitions - such as leaving for Uni, starting a career, or navigating new relationships - can add further strain, making it difficult to maintain close, supportive bonds.
In these moments, family therapy can offer a space to rebuild trust, improve communication, and strengthen the emotional connections that sustain lifelong relationships. Emotionally Focused Family Therapy (EFFT) provides a framework for healing and deepening these evolving relationships.
By focusing on attachment needs and emotional responses, EFFT helps families break free from negative interaction patterns and fosters greater understanding between parents and their teenage or adult children. It creates a safe space where difficult emotions can be explored, past wounds can be acknowledged, and new ways of connecting can emerge. As family members become more open and responsive to one another, they develop stronger, more secure bonds that endure through life’s transitions. Through this process, families can move from conflict or disconnection to a place of deeper trust, mutual respect, and lasting emotional support.

What to expect in Therapy:

Family therapy starts right where it matters most - at home. With everyone together, I can observe and understand the dynamics of your relationships in a setting that feels familiar and comfortable. These initial sessions take place online over one or two appointments. From there, therapy is tailored to meet your family’s specific relationship needs. The ongoing sessions can continue online or you can choose to transition to in-office sessions, ensuring the process supports your family in the best way possible.
