Counselling Redlands
About Debra Bragança

Welcome! I’m so glad you’re here.

I’m an experienced and qualified counsellor, registered with the Australian Counselling Association, dedicated to helping individuals, couples, and families navigate life’s challenges. My practice is inclusive and welcoming to all, ensuring a safe and supportive space for everyone. I have spent more than seven years working locally in the Redlands in private practice and am also well-equipped to provide online counselling, offering clients across Australia access to compassionate, professional support no matter where they are.

The relationship between you and your counsellor is at the heart of effective therapy. Research shows that when we feel truly seen, heard, and understood, the possibility for growth and healing becomes so much greater. That’s why I strive to create a safe, non-judgmental space where you can show up as you are and share what’s on your heart. Finding the right counsellor isn’t always instant - it can take a few sessions. To help you decide if I’m the right fit for you, let me share a little more about myself.

Life hasn’t always been easy for me. I’ve faced significant challenges, starting from a young age, and these experiences have deeply shaped who I am today. They’ve taught me resilience, compassion, and the importance of having the right person in your corner when life feels overwhelming. My own journey is what brought me to this work and I feel truly privileged to be the person in my clients corner supporting them through their life’s difficulties.

As a counsellor, I approach my work with empathy and understanding, always recognising the unique strengths and potential within each person I meet. I believe that with the right skills, coping strategies, and support, we all have the ability to move through even the toughest of times and rediscover what it means to live fully. Over time, I’ve also developed a special passion for helping couples. Relationships are at the core of so much in our lives, and I know how essential a strong, loving partnership is in navigating life’s inevitable challenges. This passion has driven me to pursue advanced specialised studies in couples therapy, so I can better support couples who feel stuck, disconnected, in conflict or have experienced a traumatic event such as an affair. Building further on my work with couples, I also have specialised training in supporting families, particularly those with teenage and adult children. I understand the significant difference that connection within the family unit can make for everyone involved and I am committed to helping families rebuild and strengthen those essential bonds.

To ensure I provide the best care possible, I remain dedicated to continuous learning through attending professional development, and consulting with trusted supervisors in my areas of focus. This keeps my approach fresh, relevant, and grounded in the latest research.

If you’re feeling ready to take the next step and would like me in your corner - whether it’s working through personal challenges, strengthening your relationship, or simply finding clarity - I’d be honoured to walk this journey with you.

My primary therapeutic approaches in life and marriage counselling draw upon the following evidence-based modalities: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Emotionally Focused Therapy for Individuals (EFIT), Couples (EFCT) & Families (EFFT), Gottman Couples Method Therapy, including Affair & Trauma Recovery and Certification in Clinical Trauma. Some of the trainings I have completed and my memberships/accreditations can be found below.

*Research shows that lived-experience practitioners are uniquely situated to understand the difficulty involved in engaging in therapy and may use their experiential knowledge to connect with patients. Their insights into suffering allow them to become highly understanding, compassionate, and empathetic practitioners (Adame, 2014; Gelso & Hayes, 2007; Gilbert & Stickley, 2012; Goldberg et al., 2015).

My Practice
In my counselling philosophy, I firmly believe that the connection between therapist and client is essential. When a client feels truly seen and understood by their counsellor, it opens the door to genuine healing.
While I maintain high professional standards in the counselling room, I also want you to know that I'm human too. I'm not here to 'fix' you; I'm here to walk alongside you on your journey. Counselling isn't just about techniques and skills; it's about the deeply meaningful moments when we truly connect. These moments are what make this work so incredibly rewarding.
My office reflects this philosophy. It is designed to create a warm and welcoming space where we can start to build our connection at your pace.
